If two people from different schools submit essentially the exact same english essay IN THE HSC EXAMS ITSELF (i.e. both students memorised the same essay) and they were both a very high quality would they both receive 0 for plagiarism?

No, if its a similar idea than it's fine, if it's word for word exact, same characters, plot, etc. then yes.

they might check, depends how much it they mark. If the topic sentences are the same, they might suspect something. still wouldn't recommend copying word-for-word off an essay anyway, especially because you tend to be less likely to answer the question.

What if the two essays were based of the same script (i.e they had the same ideas) but were worded differently and as a result they had a distinct voice?
