Differeniate tan^-1(x^2)

note: tan^-1 is inverse of tan

d/dx(tan-1x2)=2x/(1+x4), insert-username nicely shows it for you. :)

You use the chain rule.

dy/dx = du/dx. dy/du

Let u = x2

So du/dx = 2x

And dy/du = 1/(1+u2)

So dy/dx = 2x . 1/(1+x4) (since u = x2)

= 2x/(1+x4)

This is actually from a uni maths quiz question that I am doing online. I wasn't sure about the answer, I always forget how to do these silly maths differentiation. Anyway, thanks guys :)
