I've currently spoken with this lady twice, she's a relatively new friend of my sister, and I don't see her often. I'm interested in getting to know her better, I don't have her number. I prefer chance meetings, preferably alone, but in both instances I was with other company, or she was. Should I get her number off my sister, or my sister's friends who may have her number in case my sister doesn't, or should I wait to run into her again. What would be the best setting for a casual meeting?

Hear hear. I'd be more uncomfortable ringing someone up saying "hi, this is Steve, I got your number from X", than personally asking them for their number and implicitly letting them know you're gonna call. Asking them beforehand gives them a bit of warning of what you're going to do, and lets them decide how they want to respond: if you just call her up she's being put on the spot. Add to that the lack of confidence (and creepy-stalkerishness) of "I didn't want to ask you infront of my friends or yours, so I got your number from X", and I don't think it's such a good idea.

As dreamerish said, ask her yourself.
