explain to me what smart casual is?

i was at a party a few weeks ago,

and i was in what i thought was smart casual.

(black microfiber pants and a nice pallet button up shirt).

nearly all the other guys were just in jeans and a t-shirt.

some jeans can be 'smart casual', but some of the jeans they were wearing were just casual.

so am i in the wrong?

generally i would say smart casual is non ripped etc jeans and a button up shirt or nice polo

it is a really hard one to define, definately not suit pants but not boardies, ripped jeans etc. depends on the event too as sometimes smart casual may be jeans and a polo and other times (dinner etc) maybe a jacket and button up shirt. Think of what your grandma would want you to wear from your wardrobe is probably a good way to go

smart casual has a really broad spectrum depends on the event really... i generally just pull on some nice jeans and rolll the sleeves up on a longsleeve button up shirt, and if it gets cold i whack on a vest cos vests are the epitome of cool

Dw about it, it's better to be a bit overdressed than underdressed. Generally smart casual means jeans and a shirt, with proper shoes (rather than sneakers). What kind of party has a dress code though?

I would not normally consider a t-shirt to be smart casual... but if someone I know was having a part and said to wear smart casual I would probably wear a t-shirt because I think 'party smart casual' is different from 'normal smart casual'... if that makes sense.

if it's just a house party then smart casual to me means wear what you like as long as its clean (then again I've never been to a house party that had a dress code, they're your friends, who cares). So tshirt + jeans + sneakers is fine, just pick your better ones.

if its anything else then collared shirt and proper shoes and decent jeans = win.

i usually just ignore the dress code. like for example, i'm just gonna turn up in jeans and a t-shirt for my formal.

You are an absolutely LEGEND! Thank you so much! I didn't know where to look, those are exactly what he wanted.
Is there a store that sells this sort of edgy, I don't even know why sort of style it is, type of clothing. I'd assume somewhere in the city and the surrounding suburbs, but any names come to mind?

best bet is paddington, or even newtown.

i really like incu on on oxford but their prices are very expensive. i was looking around today and i found either oxford or politix to be pretty decent; i'm shopping for a similar pair of trousers as well.

i also saw these http://store.americanapparel.com.au/rsact400.html at the american apparel store on oxford st, and they seemed pretty decent - especially at $87. however, the review on the AA site isn't very good.

Awesome johony. I went to AA the other day and they had some awesome stuff for girls, but the guys section was alittle shabby, there was hardly anything there.
