1. I want to do a commerce course
2. My majors plan to be acct/finance/economics [leaning towards acct/fin]
3. I want to learn another language
4. I want to get a good job n not get rejected come recruitment time
5. UNSW seems a bit of an extra distance [thus, hassle]
6. I think Usyd is more aesthetically superior....

is comm lib studies a waste of time? do the students that study it get any extra edge in a corporate recruitment?

If you're serious about number 4, then Hong Kong University-Kensington campus....oops I meant UNSW, is a clear winner.

My review of campus aesthetics in Sydney:

UNSW is ugly...and reminds me of Canberra...which is never good. Fake sandstone steps anyone? Plus the uni is practically in Kingsford. Mmm...gotta love state-housing.

USYD is mostly ugly as well...There are a couple of nice old sandstone buildings they pay millions and millions of of dollars to maintain, instead of dedicating it to crazy modern things, like technology on campus. The rest of the buildings seem unfashionably old and run down, much like the working class areas of the inner city/west. Yes, there's gentrification around the area...yada yada. But USYD is still in a traditionally industrial area now dominated by filthy tree-hugging stoners, gays and butch dykes. This is ironic considering the well-heeled snobs that tend to flock there. You know it's true.

Macquarie has buildings that are described as the architectural pinnacle of the "brutalist" form that was all the rage in the 60's.......now they're just major major eyesores. Old Communist buildings with no aesthetic appeal whatsoever are similar, but preferable. The uni is the only major uni north of city...which means there's lots of space and nice Australian flora and fauna, but f*ck all to do. And lots of old people are around. Old people suck, and more importantly, take too long getting on and off buses!

UWS is not a uni, it is a collection of tafes..

UTS is one tafe, in a collection of campuses...the predominant one being the eyesore of eyesores...the tower.

My suggestion is BCom/BEc (double degree) at UNSW, or BCom/BA at USyd

Dont listen to these douche's. Do Comm Lib. Its what all the cool kids do.

You should be able to major in accounting, finance and a language through arts faculty. You wont be able to do this through any other course except B.arts/commerce.

oh, didnt see the languge thing.
yeah, com lib may be good for that (but note you'll also have to do 2 science uos, 1 communication (based) uos, plus an extra year).
if you dont want the language major, you can still pick up language uos with b com

well, do you think learning a language only takes a few hours of time? to learn a language you'd need heaps - thus you would need to complete all the units.
i'd love to learn a language but it seems too much work (for low marks)

i think comm lib. is a good degree for you. you can major in acct/finance and also do language units as well. unless you really want to do acct/fin/eco in which case bcomm/bec is obviousyl the better option

ok now im getting confused..
but i guess unsw commerce r rootng for themselves as are the com lib students..

okay, if i screw the language thing.. is comm lib no good? are the compulsory units that frivolous?

the thing about unsw is the distance.. i would already have to travel an hour to get to central/redfern.. so yeh.. time adds up, is it worth it?

im a com lib student next year (transfer).
if you screw the language thing, i dont recommend com lib for what you want to do.
you could always do straight commerce at usyd which is pretty much the same standard as unsw.

yes it is.
usyders may tell you usyd is better
unswers will tell you that their uni is better.
when it comes down to it, theyre pretty much the same

that's so true. its like how usyd and unsw argue about which one is better at law. unswers (like me) think they got more prestige in commerce because of all the alumni, but ultimately whether you go to unsw or usyd if its a commerce degree they'll teach you commerce.

With just an interest in studying a language, an entire B Arts degree is not practical and is a waste of a year.
