I reckon (well at UNSW anyway) you meet a lot of people you know of rather than being good friends with them (like seeing them at parties or hanging out with them out of uni once or twice to play pool/get food). Like I probs consider only 3-4 people that I've met from uni to be good friends.

+ a lot of people tend to stick with their group of friends from high school

But it's really easy to start a convo with anything about what they're studying/what they wanna do in the future so you can do that if that's your thing.
Can't agree with this more:)

it doesnt really depend on what uni you go to. your social life is what you make of it
I agree in a sense that you really have to be proactive in order to build a social life. But having gone to a smaller uni, I reckon there were far less options for socialising than say at a larger uni.

Uni in a sentence - I dont use the term friend loosely and to me, I knew many people at uni, as opposed to being friends with them. To be perfectly honest, the all the "friends" I made during my uni years didnt even go to the same uni with me.

I know a lot of people have replied to this already but here's my two cents anyway (lol) I go to UWS so I can't really tell you what other unis are like, but I've heard UWS is more open and friendly which I guess is true. As a shy person myself, I think it is pretty easy to make friends at uni. All you've got to do is sit next to someone in class and just introduce yourself :) Everyone is in the same boat as you, so they'll be more than happy to make friends :D
