there are suggestions that GitHub, a file sharing repository mainly used for software development, will be banned

it's SO dumb
and 4chan isn't being banned? like wtf

some of the things that's gonna be banned aren't even social media. lIke when was WhatsApp bad. Like what if they have to text relatives who don't have an iPhone

so true... my parents communicate with me over whatsapp! but i am over 16 so the ban shouldn't (supposedly) affect me

i think people under 16 are just gonna find different ways to interact online

but removing pinterest is crazy....

What do y'all think of the social media ban for under 16s? According to ABC news the government is considering adding Roblox, Reddit, Discord, Whatsapp, Steam, Lego Play, Twitch, Pinterest, Steam, Omegle, and Tumblr to the list of banned apps + youtube isn't fully banned bc it's educational but theyre making it so that under 16s cant make an account

My view:
As someone who was born at a very young age(currently year 8) I think that there should definitely be something done about social media use for teenagers especially around harmful content and the impact of social media on mental health. But i don't think a complete ban is the right solution, plus come on, they're banning the lego app

Also i'm curious about how accurate the age verification system would be. If they use face verification, what if someone looks older or younger than their age? If they use ID verification, wouldn't that make it an easy target for hackers? Either way, everyone's gonna be using a VPN anyways...

The main problem is bullying, and social comparison (can be good to some degree). My main concern is with data security.

Overall, the ban is likely to have minimal impact. This is a good time to read a book maybe buy some resources from Amazon or whatever, study some online course Udemy or Coursera etc.

How many books have a read that are unnecessarily about sentiment and emotions. So annoying. And they are all almost exact copies nowadays. Why can there be no good books. Even the classic English books are not so well written. Maybe I am seeing things wrong though.

It's actually gonna be so annoying to do the scanning thing to verify ur age and I'm scared their gonna think I'm like 15 when I'm 16 and then I'll have to go through the complicated process of verifying through other id and it will be so annoying

im over 16 but honestly i think the social media ban is so great, a yr 7 girl from my previous school took her own life due to bullying, its geniunely killing people and also takes so much time out of ur day. i used to be on socail media for 6 hours a day and i have deleted it now, and realised how much time i wasted w it..

Yeah it's been a while since I wrote that, they also removed discord, steam and roblox from the ban list
