I think that something needs to be said about the Socialists and Tony Abbot at politics in the pub. When someone has to be cordoned off from 10 frothing socialists by both Laborites and Liberals, you know that something is completely wrong. They didn't want to speak or debate, they just came to disrupt the event for everyone else.

I've heard whispers that because of their behaviour ANUSA may not affiliate with the socialist groups next year, can anyone confirm/deny this?

Abbott really needs to be congratulated on keeping his cool though. But I guess he didn't really have any other option.
"Pacifist" kickboxing! I'd imagine that he expected nothing less though.

Nah someone else yelled the shower comment.

Those socialists alone should have been enough reason for Tony to vote for the RU486 bill. There's a chance some of them would have been aborted out of existance by their hippy parents.
Since you aren't on DC: Tim, you, me, others Phoenix, tonight?

I was standing behind him with a mixed group of libs and labs keeping communists at bay and trying to hear him talk...

As far as repurcusions I have heard from reliable sources that they will attempt to use this incident to prevent the SA from affiliating next year.

In fact the entire thing may have been carefully played by labor (right) to achieve just this goal....

Bad news the ANUSA exec has backed down on the threat to refuse affiliation to the socialists - instead they are issueing a an angry letter warning that if it happens twice more they will be refused affiliation. My sources suggest that the laborites may have been unable to gain enough 'indie' support to block affiliation now.

ROFL, so basically the SA has given them a free ticket to cause trouble at the next event that they don't like.

In far better news James Higgins has resigned as Education Officer.

He would have faced vote of no-confidence today and likely the sack as it has emerged that in his role as Education Officer he was simply running a poster campaign for the SA (with our GSF).

Therefore nominations for a new education officer are now open (forms available from the ANUSA) - in seven days there will be a meeting and a vote for a new education officer. No idea on who any candidates might be at this stage - however I would hope sufficient backlash against higgins/the SA to prevent them retaining the position under someone else.

I will update this when I find out abit about who is running.

Oh and as a note, ANY and ALL students who turn up at the meeting get FULL voting rights. Your presence may well be decisive.
