Heya, could somebody please take a bit of time to solve this equation,

a .....a 1
-- = -- + --
3 .....4 2


My result was; a = 6

If someone could confirm this, that would be great:)

The best way to check your answer is to sub it into the original equation. If LHS = RHS, then clearly you're correct...

There are various ways to solve these. Here's mine. Make both sides into single fractions, then cross multiply.

a/3 = a/4 + 1/2

Find LCD in RHS (4).

a/3 = a/4 + 2/4
a/3 = (a+2)/4

Cross multiply
4 x a = 3 x (a + 2)
4a = 3a + 6
a = 6
