I’m fairly sure we’re going to get a holistic essay, they’ve done one for the last 5+ (didn’t check past that) years

Here are the trends I’ve found in the last 5 years of sor1 papers (based on Buddhism for short answer and Christianity for extended response):
  • 100% of section 3 have been something related to how a religion “guides adherents” with a stimulus
  • 100% of section 3 have asked how this has guided them to improve their lives/world
  • 100% of section 3 have not specified any individual topic (2020 slightly specified ethics but you could’ve and should’ve done another topic as well)
  • 0% of question 11s have had new age religion
  • 60% of section 1s have had only one new age religion question (the rest had none), and the questions have all been relatively simple
  • 100% of exams directly on the year of census data release don’t include highly specific census data questions (only 1 very broad question since 2007)
  • 80% of part (a) of section 2 have been broken into 2 parts, a higher-dot-point question on a topic and then a lower-dot-point question to expand on that topic.
  • 100% of final parts of section 2 have included a stimulus and a low-dot-point question, usually with a deceptively broad framing that actually directs to a single dot point
  • 80% of final parts of section 2 have been an 8 marker
  • 2021 seemed to be a slight anomaly compared to other papers, may indicate greater willingness by NESA to break these trends however anomalies are only slight
  • 40% of recent question 11s have been on the effect of immigration on the Australian religious landscape (remainder have been on varying aboriginal spirituality questions)
  • 100% of question 11s have been alternating since 2017 between Aboriginal Spirituality and immigration however this trend may not be reliable as 2015-2017 saw 3 consecutive Aboriginal Spirituality questions. 2021 was Aboriginal Spirituality, indicating an increased likelihood of an immigration question, however it would be unsurprising if NESA broke this trend so a focus on all dot points is still necessary
  • 40% of question 11s have had a stimulus and they have all been have been easy to work with
This took like an hour to make last week lol

I think we’ve had lots of aboriginal spirituality recently so maybe not, that said I wouldn’t put it past them to do another

They might focus on the census a bit more this year but who knows
I don’t think so, they tend to not focus on the specific census data in the same year that it is released because they can’t expect everyone to have memorised it in time

Yeah, that makes sense there could be a good change they do Aboriginal spirituality then. What if they put census questions as MCQ? Hard to know whether to answer with 2016 or 2021

Can't lie, there's been a lot of talk about Ecumenism/Interfaith recently, and they haven't given a Q on that since 2011. There might be a really high chance of that as Q11, so make sure to remember ur org's & initiatives. Also with Christianity Section 3, they've been leaning toward ethics and person a lot in recent years, so be prepared to have to write at least a bit about practice. Just my two cents worth tho 😓

yeah in the case with the multis, for the questions regarding the consensus do we answer in respect to the 2016 one or 2021 one? coz there are some significant differences like christianity falling below 50% n stuff

You would answer with respect to 2021 however it is highly highly unlikely there will be any questions that ask for specific census data as the full data isn’t even out anyways. Also, in previous hscs there has never been any specific census data in hscs directly on the year of release. That said, questions on historical census data are still more than possible

Yeah and even if they ask a Q relating to 2021, imo it's much easier to memorise, coz its literally a 5% difference between Christianity & No Religion, and in relation to Immigration, we can memorise it as a 0.5% difference between Hinduism & Islam, and a 2% diff. between Buddhism & Judaism for example. But yea as @carrotsss said, its highly unlikely they ask a multi/5mark on 2021 census since the exam was written even before the census released :)
