Hey guys, I'm in year 10 right now and a couple of people from my school went on Space Camp where they went to America and did all this cool stuff like go to Disney land, universal studios a few other places and the US Space and Rocket Reasearch Center I think. Anyway, one of my friends went and saidit was awesome. I was going to go but it costs like $7000 and ive been a very expensive child this year so i thought i would give it a miss. When i say expensive, i dont mean that i go on shopping sprees and stuff, i mean i paid a lot for selective applications and stuff, duke of ed, the 3 sports that I do holiday later this year and im going to pay quite a bit for my work experience because its out of the state T_T
Anyhoo, do you think it would be worth $7000? my friend thought it was so all I was thinking about today was how I can save some money to go on this space camp. I probably shouldnt have been thinkingabou i all day seeing as i had two big exams but meh :L She jst got back on Tuesday and went for 2 weeks in the holidays. She was the only year 10 from my school, the other few people are in year 11. People from other schools also go. I really hope it runs next year!
How can I save money for this? My parents would pay most of it, but i'd feel bad if they had to pay it all :( So i want to help out a bit..i kinda havent told them that I want to go next year. They were ok with it for this year, but then i told them the price and said how alot of the stuff im doing this year will be expensive..and they said that it was a bit much.
I don't have a job, well, not a proper one anyway. I work for my aunty every week cleaning her house and I get paid $25 for it. So far ive got a bit of money...but i wanted to buy a 3ds cos my ds lite is dying :3
My dad didnt really want me to get a job....but he suggested that one so i dont see much difference T_T he just wants me to focus on my studies and i guess a normal part time job would take up some time... but do you think if i got a part time job and had this "job" with my auntie and kept up with my studies i could save some money to help my parents pay for spacecamp? or is that too much to do? I just feel bad for making them pay it all. Also..my dad was going to buy me a new laptop next year....a macbook pro because my laptop is dying....thats gonna cost a lot too >.<
AAAAAAH i really want to go on space camp...but the price is making me worried!!!
What should i do???? Thanks for any help :3

It sounds like a really awesome opportunity and if you want to go, go! Not many of these opportunities will pop up.

With saving money, you can probably work all summer at maccas or something. I know friends who did that and easily saved 1k.

Talk to your parents about it as well and maybe strike a deal as to how much you can save for it to limit their spending.

Also postpone buying the 3DS until you've saved enough for the space camp, because that can wait. By the time you're done with space camp, a new model would've come out and you might've outgrown it.

Best of luck!! Enjoy the camp if you go :)

As terrible and stereotypically nerdy as it sounds, I would totally do this.

Cool....only problem is...IM GOING AWAY THESE SUMMER HOLIDAYS :'( ill be back for what 2 -3 weeks or so? :/ i dont think there will be enough time by the time i apply for the job, and idk if id get it :/ oh well, i could maybe try and get a job during the term..but i dont know how well it will all work out. plenty of people do it though, so i guess i could try..

damn...just realised that next year I will once again be an expensive child because year 11 means new uniforms >.> my uniforms are so not cheap either -.- my stupid junior dress cost 60 bucks, but it lasted me for almost 4 years..but still, my uniforms will cost so much :'( plus the new laptop, sports and tutoring. T_T the more i think about it, the more i realise that idk if my parents would want to pay that much on top of all the other expenses =(

Spacecamp sounded so fun though and my friend said that its seriously worth the money. maybe i can have a talk with my parents and tell them how much i want to go...and maybe afterwards i can do what my friend is doing, she is going to get a job in the summer holidays and try and start paying back her parents. Like I guess i could save up as much as i can now and put that towards space camp, and afterwards i can get a job and start paying them back...

heeheeheee i totally would ditch the 3DS or 3DS XL (whichever i end up getting).. but >.< I want one so badly :3 my DS lite has lasted since 2007 and everything on it is starting to die, buttons really unresposive, top screen is soooo loose and since im going away at the end of the year, im going to end up getting really bored on the plane and also in spare time that i have while im overseas :3 oooh and i could use it on the plane if i went to space camp :L and while im away for work experience..as in travelling there and in my spare time in the hotel (long story..doing work experience in QLD and im in NSW, so going up to QLD for the week.) i have 2 EB games gift cards from friends which add up to $50 which i could use but i was gonna put that towards Call of Duty Ghosts.. GAAAAH I CANT HAVE EVERYTHING >.<
life..is..so....hard >.< D: =(

Try selling fundraiser chocolates, I raised $5000 in a year just carrying them around school for my language exchange.

haha that sounds like a great idea! I know when the year 11 people sell chocolates for some fundraising everyone goes mad and goes "ooh chocolate person can i buy some chocolate!?" they literally get swarmed with people buying them. I guess i could give it a go, although im not sure if my school actually allows people to sell chocolate unless its for the school or for an event like the year 12 formal. I could give it a go though, im sure theyd be more successful than raffle tickets (which my friend who went to space camp sold). If i cant though, i could try raffle tickets. i guess i could always ask the teacher who goes on space camp how i can get money, maybe she could help me with chocolates :L
