although im sure a lot of people abuse the system, s.p are neccessary for a lot of people with medical conditions. ive had a cardio/neuro problem for 4 years where i faint multiple times a day, sometimes for over an hour at a time. on top of the fainting, i feel dizzy most the time, lose my vision for up to 20 secs every few mins (during this time i never know when im going to faint), feel fatigued during the dfay and cant sleep at night, and on top of that, ive had anxiety and dissociation problems for years. i spend half my life in hospital, or seeing specialists or seeing a pysch. i cant drive, i cant go out alone, im a scuba diver who cant scuba dive, i faint in most my classes at school, ive gone through glass coffee tables, ive fallen down stairs at school and stuffed my neck, i fainted during music performance exam, in the middle of a piece, ive fainted walking down the street and on public transport a ton of times, and basically im absoloutly petrified of exams because the stress only exaserbates my symptoms.
i get 5 mins break per half hour, in case i faint, and food to keep my sugar levels in check. it doesnt do much, but its less disturbing to me, and to other people if im supervised seperatly. i dont get extra time to write. so if i feel dizzy for more than 1/2 an hour, it eats into exam time.
my schooling has been disrupted so much over the last few years, and exams are nearly impossible for me to get through without fainting. sp's dont make up for lack of preparation, they merely give me rest breaks so i can lie down.
id swap my sp's for a normal life any day. and im sure people with epilespy or diabetes or any other med cond would say the same.
