Is it true that from next year, extension students will be studying the film 'Spirited Away' instead of Gotaifumanzoku?

I have heard that from 2009 students will be studying Spirited Away instead of Gotaifumanzoku. Also there will be a renewed focus with environment for issue.

Lol, damn, why are 09'ers so lucky? First, Eng AOS gets changed to Belonging, now Ext Jap gets changed to Spirited Away XP

I agree, Gotaifumanzoku is pretty intresting..Its different, I really enjoy it..
How would they study Spirited away though? I mean, how can they possibly learn Japanese from the movie? It would be pretty hard, like analysing a whole movie to find out structures and stuff

they'd probably do it like the French Extension.. It'd be alot harder..
cause instead of 4 extracts from the book, it'd be like 4 scenes from the movie..
And you'd have to get the transcripts and whatnot...

I don't think film techniques would be part of it.
It'll most likely be the dialogue so they can put it on exam paper?

I hated "gotaifumanzoku" lol, and envy those who get to do spirited away...

it's a good film, but i like gotaifumanzoku because the issues relate really well to society and there lots of parallels you can make between japan and australia. plus oto is pretty inspiring. i'm glad i dont have to do spirited away just because i suck at analysing film techniques.

:p Anyway, thank god this became a year 12 text, now we don't have to watch it when the Jap teachers don't have anything to do at school xD I think I've seen this about 20 or 30 times in my junior years alone...

As for issues to study, I guess there is identity as mentioned before, but isn't there also pollution?

Yeah, we're doing it too.

Just picked up Extension Japanese, glad someone actually does the subject at all. At our school, there are 5 people doing continuers in year 12, and 4 of those 5 doing Extension. Not a small year either, there are 340 people in our grade.

Looking forward to it though, our teacher said it'll help our 2u mark.

:)

Can't wait for Japanese Extension! :)
