So... I suppose we'll sit pretty and wait for results now.

In the meantime, I hear that Rose Jackson punched a Liberal in the face this morning and was removed from campus by security

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

The very joyous news aside (and I'm waiting for waf's comments on the incident :D) what did you all think?

She slapped him across the arm and then got escorted off campus. Also I nearly had a socialist with an annoying Scottish accent take a swing at me yesterday after I said Thatcher was the English Prime Minister.

Bahaha, it's about time.

But nonetheless - oh, dear. Silly libs and violent lefties...

PS: Where did Campus Security take her, lol? Did they just drop her outside the front on the uni?

The presidency count is finished. I won't quote exact numbers, or reveal the winner - but I will say that both first and second polled just over 1500 votes each after preferences - and that the winner won by just 21 votes.

Because the results of one polling booth in particular is in doubt (because of Rose, coincidentally), recounts and appeals will most likely decide the final outcome.

Angus got president, we got the best voter turnout we've had in ages, and beat Alma.

Win.

Ner, Rose Jackson's head of the NUS and can't campaign.

That said she did so at Cumbo and hopefully NOLS get kicked out for it.

not suprised, i'm quite left wing but i would vote for sonia ahead of alma (despite quah) because frankly it isnt the SRC's job to be activists, its their job to help students in their direct welfare (which does not include war, may include racism when directly involved, but not as a general principle)

protesting of wars is a fucking STUPID idea for the SRC, and ALL monies (whether from uni or students) should go directly into counselling and advice, not fucking stupid anti-war rallies

If I'm right, the appeal will be based on two related issues:

1) that as an NUS office-bearer, she is forbidden by the SRC constitution from campaigning (or even outwardly supporting) in this year's election - a rule she obviously flaunted throughout the campaign, and certainly exploited as most candidates will attest ("I'm your NUS President and I support Angus"). A similar ruling was upheld in 2004, when former Union President Sam Crosby used his position (and his Union identification badge) to similarly influence the vote.

2) having punched Simon, and being ordered off university grounds, she violated this rule by campaigning at Cumberland campus for at least an hour after this, and even after being informed to stop campaigning (but not to leave the grounds) at Cumberland campus, was allowed to remain in a Action t-shirt from 2003 that, apart from "Felix" instead of "Angus" on the back, had the same content as the shirt from this year. Since precedent had been set at that polling box with candidates forced to change clothing before even being allowed to approach the box, we can also say in this regard that Rose continued to campaign through her continued wearing of an Action t-shirt (over other non-political choices of clothing, I'll add)

I should also point out that both Voice (Lib/Ind) and Ignition (Ind/ALP) are SUPPORTING Dan Jones and this appeal. Even though Angus might be somewhat closer to our politics than Dan, at least Dan is not weedy and corrupt like Angus.

I just think it'd be the fucking sweetest of ironies, if Rose Jackson, the Hero of NOLS/NLS, costs the Labor Left the jewel of the crown of the student organisations - one they've held (and ruined) for six years.

Score I can account for at least 35 votes for Voice for engo, so I should get on, supposing some engos voted at wentworth :D

EDIT: Did anyone here vote put me as their first preference on the src paper at a booth outside engineering?

Every vote counts. Except when teams start breaking the rules. Wham! for Honi will most likely find themselves disqualified for using spraypaint on and around the university campus - which isn't technically against the rules, until the clean-up bill pushes them over their spending limit.

If it doesn't happen, it sets a future precedent that spraypainting on campus is an acceptable electoral tactic. We are asking not just for the removal of the spraypaint to be charged to the team, but also for consideration to be given to the fact that they have Already benefitted from these actions.

It was funny on election day how the Alma people approached students and asked: "So what do you think about racism and war?"
