So, a few things....
1) In accordance with the SRC Regulations, Part 8, Section 26, sub-section G on page 51 of the SRC Consitution which states that:
Therefore, this thread will not open until 9am on Friday the 8th of September. If any member believes that this should not be the case, please PM me with reasons as to why.The USyd SRC Constitution said:PRACTICES FORBIDDEN:
26. g) No person shall take part in any promotion of candidates until twelve days prior to the first polling day.
2) Further information about the Elections will be posted here as they become available ie. lists of candiates and their nominators. Any additional information which I may have overlooked should, yet again, be PMed to me.
3) As per usual practice in the past, members from this forum who are running in the Election and wish to have their policy statement made to the forum, please PM me with the statement as you would like it to be seen and it will be placed in a locked thread.
The reason for this procedure is two-fold.
i) to prevent the main Election discussion thread (this thread) being full of conversations between forum members and candidates. All questions regarding a candiates policies and themselves in general should be directed to them by whichever manner of contact they choose to divulge ie, PM's, e-mails whatever.
ii) so that other forum members who do not wish to participate in student politics of any kind can clearly see where it is happenning and avoid it.
Currently, this is the most practical set-up for advertising candidates without clutter. If anyone else can come up with a better idea, I'm all ears.
4) THE TOKEN POINT: INFORMATION FOR FIRST YEARS
Just like in May, when you inundated with flyers from various people running for election on to the Union Board, Second Semester brings with it the SRC Elections, which are actually 4 elections rolled into one.
During these elections, we are voting for
The President of the SRC
The Delegates to the NUS (National Union of Students)
The Editors of Honi Soit
The Representatives to the SRC Council
Most of the major political parties on campus will run people in all these sections and in this election you will have the choice of voting above the line (ie, one tick in one box for one parties whole package) or below the line (ie, you may agree with one parties Honi ticket but not their President so you pick and choose who you want where.)
Bear in mind that if you vote above and below the line, the vote will be counted as if you marked below the line only. (SRC Consitution, page 45)
As with the Union Elections, this forum has members running and there are also preference deals which happen between the various parties. All campaign materials should be taken with a grain of salt. If you are really interested in student politics, you should read the student publications on campus for information as well as the iDMedia News Digest which is the Media Societies weekly online publication. The archives are also an excellent source of historical information if you should so wish to seek it.
5) the Usual Disclaimer...
Please also be aware that whilst I would not report any of you to the SRC directly, if you should contravene any of the regulations outlined in the Consitution, one of the other candidates may report you. This forum is public territory and as such, all usual practices regarding appropriate behaviour and treatment towards other candidates should be observed. This includes harrassment. As per usual, all normal forum rules also apply and thus, any spam (in this thread, defined as what is not pertinent to the Elections and Student Politics in general) will be removed.
6) I'm a little scatterbrained today so I've probably missed something. Throw a PM in my direction if so.
More information will be added as it becomes available.
Regards,
Susan
