Fallacy. You're implying that, just because my rantings are consistent with a certain ideal (in this case freedom) a larger percentage of the time than yours or others, my ideology is necessarily crazy and wrong. Also if you're taking everything seriously you should be pointing out that monorails and tunnels are unworkable, and that my irrational hatred of Stan has nothing to do with src elections.walrusbear said:not for a second
a lot of wafs ramblings are the flipside of the SA
they're just as extreme
I wouldn't say that political discourse is pointless, as there are areas where I realise that complete free markets are not applicable, such as pollution taxes, providing a certain level of public education, police, courts, prisons, etc. While I'll generally have a strong tendency towards the right, it's because I think it provides the best outcome as in general individuals know what's best for them, but wouldn't rule out restricting freedom in some areas to get the best outcome.walrusbear said:i know your earlier post had jokes in it, i'm referring more to general political attitudes
and yes, the term 'crazy' was subjective, how insightful
your rantings are generally inflexibly aligned with an absolute adherence to economic rationalism and free markets and whatnot. which is fair enough i suppose, but makes political discussion pointless, because you can't see any value in other perspectives at all.
you can believe it all you want, but thus why it is extreme and 'crazy'
That's old news. In fact, Honi Soit published that same rumour when Doug and Angus ran for Union Board last year. More to the point, it's completely irrelevant to the actual election...Phanatical said:Does anybody remember the candidate Doug for Union from a few years ago? Apparently he and Angus are romantically linked. Just a bit of goss...
Ah Justin, you would have loved the lecture we had today on Libertarianism in Contemporary Political Philosophy.withoutaface said:Fallacy. lolPhanatical said:It was my intention to create a campaign video to play during lectures, with somebody counting 600 dollar coins over a half hour. While that's obviously not practical, I believe the message is still important, as I do not believe it is fair for our SRC to spend money protesting in favour of reintroducing the mandatory fees students like myself worked bloody hard to get rid of.
I don't think that many of our representatives on the SRC actually understand how difficult it is to raise those kinds of funds. One prominent former SRC president, for example, lives in a house in Newtown that her ABC presenter mother BOUGHT her. It's all well and good for somebody like her to demand the payment of $600 from every student, because she probably uses hundred dollar notes to wipe her arse. I, on the other hand, work mine off to earn $500. That's two and a half week's earnings for me, or sixty $20 bonsai (including the cost of materials, transport etc.). I'm incredibly pissed off that instead of using it to pay for my $24 weekly train & bus tickets, my $75-a-tank petrol bills, my $200-a-semester textbook bills or even maybe the occasional night out with my best friend, I'm forced to pay $490 towards sports teams I don't support, a few cents off a putrid union coffee or the legal fees for yet another violent protester who chose to beat up a cop or a VSU-supporting student.

At the same time, the SRC and Union are purposely limiting or removing completely certain services designed to convey the impression that VSU is destroying these organisations. To call it "unfair" and "dishonest" would be polite.
That's the message waf and I are working to convey on the behalf of the Voice tickets. It's essential, now more than ever, to actually vote this year. Every student has a voice, and if we don't exercise it, the corrupt politician-wannabes will exploit the shit out of us.
Rose lives in Melbourne this year, but when she was living in Newtown she was renting with two other students.Phanatical said:One prominent former SRC president, for example, lives in a house in Newtown that her ABC presenter mother BOUGHT her.
You're just as bad as Fox News. The Bull put it most aptly - she has Snowballs chance in Hell of becoming President.Phanatical said:Your new SRC President, ladies and gentlemen:
