wat im basically asking is:

Give me an "A D V A N C E D"
What's that spell "ADVANCED!"

Also people in advance are more likely to try rather than muck around and drag you down in standard. Also the scaling!!

Advanced ftw!

Unless there are only 4 people doing advanced or something.

Given an equal number of people studying both (with at least say 20 each) than advanced > you

are you saying that other people in standard that dont do well will bring my mark down ??

also, although i can do the work will it be hard to score as selective students (e.g james ruse) will be doing advanced aswell ?

and one last thing i must get of my chest is standard a 'capped' subject ? or is it just a rumor ??

thanks guys i just want to make a smart decision as its the HSC and all.

thanks again

They'll 'bring you' down by not putting in the work, as in distract you bcoz most only do standard English because they have to and wouldn't do it at all if it was compulsory (most-not all)

As for doing standard and you're class bringing you down, you will still get a good mark but you must top or be at the top of your class to do well in standard Enlgish. Your class probs won't push you u though.

Standard is not designed to get band 6's, although it's still possible.

There's also the extension people to consider.

I heard it was true from a teacher, then I heard it was false on BoS. So I don't know what to think.

Hope this helps. :)

Obviously, since you posted this thread in the English Advanced forum, most people are going to tell you to do English Advanced. Had you posted it in the English Standard forum and you'll get quite different opinions.

I'd recommend doing the Advanced course. What's the point of not pushing yourself in the HSC?

You'd just be sailing along in Standard when you could be getting quite good marks in Advanced that would push up your UAI.

On the contrary I don't need any further unnecessary pressure when I can avoid it in the English Standard course.
