Sorry, didn't know what section to put this under.

I was wondering since STAT is out of 200 marks (the multiple choice) yet there are only 70 questions, how are the marks distributed?

Also, I had trouble with this specific question in the sample questions.

**

All the employees who work for a company are invited to the annual dinner dance. Each employee who attends is allowed to bring one partner. However, not all the employees attend the dance and, of those who do attend, some do not bring a partner.

* The number of employees of the company may vary from year to year.
* Only employees of the company and their partners attend the dinner dance.

The question is;

One year, the number of employees of the company who attended the dinner dance with a partner was the same as the number who attended without a partner but more than the number who did not attend.

It follows that the total number of people who attended the dinner dance was:

A. less than the number of employees of the company
B. the same as the number of employees of the company
C. greater than the number of employees of the company
D. Any of A, B, C depending on the number of employees of the company.

If anyone could explain this, thanks in advance.

I would go with (C) if the total no. of employees refer to the number in that particular year, but (D) if it refers to any year as the question did not say "the total number of employees in the year."

I say C!

About the mark out of 200, this is because the marks are scaled scores between 100 and 200.

What I don't understand is how the question involves logic and reasoning - the question is somewhat vague.

N/A
Staff with Partners = X
Staff without partners = y
Staff not going = Z
X=Y>Z
Total People going = 2X + y = 3x
Total Staff = X+Y+Z = 2x+z
Since X>Z, then 3X>2X+Z

how do they work out your STAT score? i understand its between 100 and 200, so if you got 78% correct in you STAT exam does that gives you a score of 178?

yeah, just keep on doing the questions they sent you. its practice in figuring out the answere and they reckon it teaches you to think critically for the exam.

Hi,
Can anyone verify my solution? thanks in advance:

Persons going with partner: PWP, also total no. of persons and their partners:T.PWP
Persons without partners: PNP
Persons not going: PNG

Given: no. (PWP) = no. (PNP) > PNG

therefore: T.PWP > PNP > PNG

Since each employee with partner is = to PNP +1,
no.( T. PWP )= 2x no.( PNP )

Also: total no. of employees= PWP + PNP + PNG = 2PNP + PNG, (Since PWP without their partner = PNP) (*)

At party = T.PWP + PNP

but T. PWP + PNP = 3xPNP

From (*):

2xPNP + PNG, we can see is less than 2xPNP + PNP

Since PNP>PNG: 2xPNP + PNG < 3xPNP

Therefore answer is C
