i'm getting an annoying rattling noise from underneath my car when it is idling. it seems to be coming from the engine area. it is a brand new golf mkV tdi, with only 420km on the odo. it starts rattling after it's been running for about 5 minutes, so after it gets warmed up a bit. it's been very cold here in adelaide (i haven't seen the outside temp gauge get higher than 12 C yet), so i thought it just might be that, but then again it only started happening when the odo got to about 350km. so if it was a temperature thing it would have been happening from the beginning right?

can anyone help me figure out what's causing it?

Well it IS a diesel. Diesels rattle. But then again, I am unfamiliar with the newest Volkses.

Go with what seremify said. At this sort of mileage, the dealer is your slave. You can get them to do nearly anything.

well, if it is happening after it warms up a little then it could be becasue the revs are set too low on it. when my corolla is cold the revs are near the 1.3K mark when idle, but after driving round a bit the revs (in idle) drop to about 900. and every now and then it gives a rattle that would drop a building... most of the times when it is in reverse :(

we took it back, after about 10 minutes they found the problem. the bonnet was not closed completely, on of the clips that was meant to hold it steady was not fully locking it in so they had to tighten it up :mad1:
