I just started year 12 and I'm doing:

4U english
legal studies
visual arts
design and technology
biology

I want to drop bio because it is my weakest subject (I have never scored above 85...) and as I'm doing three majors I don't want to feel overburdened with a subject I don't enjoy. My reason for having picked up bio in the first place is because I dropped 2U maths halfway through year 11... I was originally doings CAFS.
I am interested in pursuing a career in design/communication or social work. Many of the unis I'm considering have atars in the 90s and I'm concerned I won't be able to get this because my prac subjects won't scale well. Is it a good idea to stick with bio even though it requires a great deal of time and effort because it will raise my atar? Or should I focus on the subjects I'm passionate about and are relevant to my post-school goals? Is it better to be strategic or practical?

Torn!

I would probably drop Biology to be honest - as you have said, it is your weakest subject and you dislike it, so chances are it probably wont count anyway. You can easily get a 90+ ATAR with your subjects (you are carrying four units of English which all scale quite well). Try experimenting with an ATAR calculator to see how much you need in each subject for a 90+ ATAR.

Drop biology. You seem to dislike it, and this may not serve you very well when you are studying! Try your best in your remaining subjects. The English units will scale well I believe. You should be able to get in the 90's! Good luck :)
