I would suggest Introduction to the Australian Legal System, by John Carver.

read an introductory law book like...

Cook et al., Laying Down The Law, 5th Edition
Parkison P., Tradition and Change in Australian Law, 3rd Edition
Vines P., Law & Justice in Australia Foundations of the Legal System, 1st Edition

just with your sig Mr. MS, I was very pissed off at the stupid bus driver of a 393 who refused to let me and a few other students on because "there is a 895 just behind"...

i should have referred him to the relevant regulations:

Passenger Transport (Bus Services) Regulation 2000 said:
s14 Conveyance of passengers
(1) Subject to this clause, the driver of a bus:
(b) must stop the bus and pick up any person who indicates to the driver that the person wishes to board the bus.

Maximum penalty: 5 penalty units.

LOL

I have considered carrying giantium bottles of water onto the bus soley for the opportunity of, when asked not to drink it, citing s33 of the Act, as it were - "...nothing in this clause prohibits a passenger from drinking water, or eating or drinking for medical reasons, in a bus."

thus if i could demonstrate that due to a low-sugar count after a full day of law class, running, dancing and swimming, i needed carbohydrates desperately, i could have a 5-course meal on an 895? ;)

i've had two bus-drivers chit-chat each other thru an open front door while they were dragging each other down Anzac Pde.. as we stopped, one threw a muffin as breakfast for another fucking hell:
s19 Behaviour of drivers

The driver of a bus must not do any of the following:
(b) eat or drink in a bus while the bus is conveying any passenger
(d) move the bus while the doors are open
geez, there's so many laws in this world that i can see arise causes of action.
