Ive got a portfolio on this. A large part of the marks are assosiated with equations, raw data and graphs produced from this data. Does anyone have any ideas on what kinda data i could be getting here, and where to find it?! (teahcer said he wants investigation into a REAL WORLD APPLICATOIN of it, not text book regugitiion)

Give up. If you haven't got a topic by now, there is no hope. I recommend you do something related to the first prac.

That is all the help i can give you.

I think you'll find that your teacher probably only wants the equations like the hydration of ethylene / dehydration of Ethanol, etc....

Sulfuric Acid is generally used as a Catalyst to increase the activation energy for the reaction to proceed.

Id you really wanted to show off, you might even be able to tie your response in with the dot point at the start of chemical monitoring where you have to talk about a named chemist. You know.... something like "John SMith is a plant chemist at Chemists R Us, and he uses the chemical principles of blah blah - one of which may include the use of H2SO4 as a catalyst.

I think you will find that there are many applications of H2SO4 out there. So, i hope i have somewhat given you some info about it (and i hope you haven't finished it yet - so i haven't typed this up for nothing).

Anyways, goodluck

Cheers

h2so4 is used in a load of applications, not just ethanol stuff. look in your text book or something. as far as i know(which may not be far) its used in explosives, metallurgy and etching. and thats just of the top of my head. its a very prolific substance so you'll do fine.

u should look in a chemistry encyclopaedia (50+ volumes covering how great chem really is). try the library. they should have a few of em lying around.
