Below are some lyrics to a song that deals with revenge tragedy. It strikes me as somehting that could relate to medea.
The Wedding List

No, I’ll never give the hunt up,
And I won’t muck it up.
Somehow this is it, I knew.
Maybe fate wants you dead, too
We’ve come together in the very same room,
And I’m coming for you!

Do you think I’d ever let you
Get away it, huh?
He swooned in warm maroon.
There’s gas in your with barrel, and I’m flooded with doom.
You’ve made a wake of our honeymoon,
And I’m coming for you!"

"all of the headlines said ’passion crime"
’newly weds groom shot dead
’mystery man.’ God help the bride
She’s a widow, all in red,
With his red still wet. she said--"

I’ll put him on the wedding list!
I’ll put him on the wedding list!
I’ll get him and I will not miss.

Now, as I’m coming for you,
All I see is rudi.
I die with him, again and again.
And I’ll feel good in my revenge.
I’m gonna fill your head with lead
And I’m coming for you!

And when it’s all over you’ll roll over
The butt of my gun:
One in your belly, and one for rudi.
You got what you gave by the heel of my bootie.
Bang-bang--out! like an old cherootie,
I’m coming for you!

"all of the headlines said ’passion crime:
’newly weds groom shot dead
’mystery man.’ God help the bride!
She’s a widow, all in red,
With his red still wet. she said--"

She sure got him on the wedding list
I’ll got him on the wedding list!
I got him and I did not miss.
I’ll put him on the wedding list!

"and after she shot the guy,
She committed suicide.
I’m coming, rudi!
"and later, when they analysed,
They found a little one inside.
"it must have been rudi’s child."
I shot, I shot, I shot him honey!
"never mind, she got the guy."
He hit the ground, rudi!
"an eye for an eye."
Ashes to ashes...
"eye for an eye."
I hit him, hit him
Rudi!, rudi!
I’m coming coming coming honey
"eye for an eye."
Rudi!

:D You have my old teacher then... Stars Tennis Balls by Stephen Fry, Life and Loves of a She-Devil by Fay Whedon... if I remember right... but I'm only using TSTB on Friday... but yea, both of them work well - TSTB with Revengers, and Life and Loves with Medea...

I was listening tothe bitter sweet syphony by the verve or something liek that and i thought Cruel intentions would be a good film for revenge tragedy. Mostly with the selma blair and Sarah MIchelle Gellar storyline.

but some of the films are just revenge and not revenge tragedy, though you could probably manipulate them to call them a tragedy.

The one i'm currently using is
Mystic River

a tragedy is where we feel sympathy for the protagonists. And we feel emotions for the amount of deaths occurring.

Of course there is a more general literal turn. but thats sort of the definition of tragedy in my words.

Is The Phantom of the Opera (the book, not the films, which focus on the romance, not the gruesome bits) a Revenge Tragedy. I'm unsure.

please redirect to the right thread if that question is misplaced

Thanks :)

For something a little different, try Rigoletto- it's an opera and it's in Italian. But there is a translation somewhere on the net and there are some really good revenge tragedy-ish quotes in some of those songs. Plus, being an opera it's all about passion and opulence, which are fiarly significant parts of the genre. Plus, because none of the markers will have seen it (or at least know the translation) you can BS on quite a bit. Give the songs whatever meaning you like.

Also, The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith is alright. It's an Australian film, so all the context stuff is pretty easy to find. Indigenous rights and that kind of thing are pretty big topical issues.

I watched Irreversible yesterday.

I thought about it just then and it's modern Jacobean. And the theme of fate being pre-destined is really strong. I'd recommend it.

But I think i should warn you of a (sexually) graphic scene which might scar you for life.

18+ KIDDIES.
YOU'LL UNDERSTAND WHEN YOU'RE HAVING NIGHTMARES.
