Swarovski Pendant (2 Viewers)

Hi all,

Just need some advice here. Yearly anniversary is coming up -- just wanted to ask if the following crystal pendant is a good idea as a present? (Saw it the other day at the new Chatswood Swarovski store.) It may not be the only thing I'm giving her, but I'll see about that.

That's quite pretty, but I don't really like the string. Personally I'd want something I don't have to take off when I shower. I don't know what your girlfriend likes, but I've seen prettier pendants.

look dude, only u will know if she likes it or not, personally i think it's great, it's not too flash, nor too simple, and she can wear it anytime she wants, after all remember it's not the present that counts, it's the idea that you're thinkin about her n that she's special, that's wot presents are meant to be about, silly responses aside.

get some nice sterling silver for her of ebay mate, some nice sellers on their selling very nice items...my cousins is going to pick up this hot necklace in sterling silver for his gf its like $70 and its RRP at prouds is like $200

whilst the link you posted is nice I think their are much better options out their for around the price of 57 euros.

I think this crystal is really sweet - but like Dreamerish said, necklaces that rust in water suck, unless they're fancy occasion necklaces (this one looks more like one you'd wear every day). But I'd take crystal over sterling silver. Colour baby, colour! And sparkle! I love, I love!

Something like this is actually easy to get onto a gold chain (I'm allergic to nickel as well, pure gold all the way), provided you can get a jump ring through the hole in the crystal pendant (if the company won't do it for you, jump rings are easy to buy (use two needle nose pliers, MAKE SURE YOU KNOW HOW TO OPEN/CLOSE the jump rings properly, and make sure you get one that's strong).

Having looked at Dreamerish's favs, what sort of taste in jewellery does your girlfriend have? The heart is a really safe choice (brownie points there), as I'm (to use any random girl as another example) not actually a fan of the whole retro kind of look - it's pretty, but I wouldn't wear it.

Wow thanks for the very useful response. So you think the nylon pink cord thingo isn't good enough? And yeah I think she wants a "heart" shaped design -- she can't wear the old one (also heart-shaped) I gave her since she found out she was allergic

The nylon pink thing just isn't me. I'm a traditionalist/classic/antique jewellery/girly girl kind of girl at heart.... nylon just does nothing to me! There are some girls in this world who can wear cheap jewellery and get away with it... on me, it just look cheap :'( Also, nylon - like any string - gets soggy in the shower. Ewww...!

I'm sorry that all basically all the links I picked out are "occasion pieces", it's probably got something to do with the fact I only wear gold stud earrings as my only jewellery on a daily basic - but I'll dress up frequently, provided I don't leave any non-gold earrings on overnight. I love necklaces, but I'm a dancer and they thwak you repeatedly in the chest when you do turns and jumps. It sucks like you would not believe!

The other thing that's good is the charm bracelet thing (and it's so sweet it makes me think about swooning!). Basically what happens is that you add on a charm every year... *tear*

Hey, you've got a point there. Now that you say it, it does look sort of cheap... Noooo, dilemma! What should I do...

How much are gold chains? Do you think it would be appropriate if I gave her the crystal + nylon string (in a box obviously) and then say "if you want to, you can change it with this gold chain"???

its beautiful!! she will be impressed. its a shame about the string though, i dont like the string and it seems impractical... soggy in the shower!! (thanx glitterfairy). the pendant is gorgeous though.
it depends on the chain that u suggest, possibly a "snake chain" its like a tight weave of gold/silver, expensive though...

Gold chains CAN be relatively cheap - a 9 carat one (the more carats it has, the more "yellow" the gold will be, also the more pure gold content) of a decent length... probably no more than 20-30 dollars, if that (but don't quote me!). You can hop to any goldmark store - the other ones like Prouds, Angus and Coote etc will probably be a bit pricier.

In all honesty - if you gave the heart to me as is and said "You can change the string for a chain if you like" I'd be a bit disappointed... it sort of reads "oh yeah, there's a bit missing but you can get it yourself, can't you?"

A friendly jeweller might actually be able to do the whole jump ring thing for you - furthermore, they can solder it so it won't break or come apart easily. You'd definately start going upwards in the price range now, though.

A cheaper option would be cubic zirconia. Technically this is a bit more valuable than crystal, but remember that you're paying a lot for the "Swarkovski" label (a bit like Tiffany's, where they charge up to 4 times the price value because of the blue box and white ribbon). Ah, but the power of the brand name...!

Boy am I glad that I'm only helping, and not in your shoes :S Eesh, shopping for girlfriends is tough!
