Hi fellow visual arts students,

Did anyone attend the Sydney College of the Arts
Open day last Saturday? Just wondering. I did,
but I wanted to hear the opinions of others who
went. ;)

Also...Is anyone thinking of applying for College of Fine Arts (COFA)?

Hi goosiegoo,

Oh ok, you haven't been yet to SCA to have a look.
Well I'll be honest and say that, I was actually a little
disappointed with the actual school site. The teachers seemed
really friendly, as did the (current) students but I just found the
place a little 'eerie'-if that makes sense. It's apparently a very
historic site, but I found it a little "too dark" and am now re-
thinking about my preferences.

But hey-I encourage anyone thinking of SCA at Rozelle, to actually visit
the place themselves. You're impression may be very different to mine.

Hi fellow students/artists!

I am a fourth year student at SCA, and i have really enjoyed my time there. I do film and digital art, but other studios include

painting
sculpture
glass
ceramics
printmedia
photography
jewelry

maybe more i'm forgetting. You will learn art theory/history along with your practical work, as well as some standard drawing and foundation classes. there is a library on campus. and a cafe. and LOTSS of grass and open space which you won't find at COFA.

the reason it seems eerie is because it was once a mental asylum. Which explains the standstone buildings, and the huge sandstone wall surrounding the college. But it's cool. There are even secret tunnels, and secret little rooms/areas underneath and around the college which i have been privilidged to explore a couple of times.

what else? there is no bar at the uni, but pubs are very close by.

i would suggest coming to the Graduation Show on the 13th of November, (it goes for a week) to check out the standard of art being created, and get a feel for the environment. The grad show is always a great night. and it's free!

if you guys want to ask me anything, you can just email me

mlagana@optushome.com.au

because i probably won't check this again

my art teacher told me they are both great, but these days with the COFA's BFA selection criteria turning into a uai only one, more 'talented' graduates are coming out of SCA lately as they select their based on portfolio, nterview and the uai.
