gather secondary information to
predict the value of acceleration due​
to gravity on other planets

For this dot point do we need to memorise all the values of acceleration for various planets, or simply just know the formula, g=GM/r^2

Also my school's textbook, jacaranda has all this crap about van allen belts, problems associated with velocities, that i can't find in the syllabus do i still need to learn it for the HSC?

know how to apply the formula. u need to know why satellites are placed at different altitudes, the van allen belt disrupts the communication between earth and the satellites.

I remember this was one of the best right-hand column dot-points of the Physics syllabus.
Using g = GM/r2 (I hope you knew how to derive this), all we need is the masses and radii of Mercury, Venus, Earth and repeat for all other planets.
Simple.

van allen belts is in the older syllabus, you don't need to know it.

you don't need to memorise all the values of acceleration for various planets, and i think the formula is on the formula sheet.

There will be a formula, you will need to know how to use it though.

Van allen belt may still be needed in the re-entry of space craft, IIRC.

I did not regret remembering the formula for induced voltage, ε = - nΔΦ/Δt because I needed it in a trial question even though it was beyond the scope of the syllabus.

A formula for van allen belts or do you mean g=Gm/r^2

Do you mean Ionisation blackout 0_0?

I'm slightly rusty on Phys now that I didn't touch it for 1-2 years, but IIRC, ionisation blackout occurs at the point which re-entering vehicle causes significant friction with the gradually thickening atmosphere, thereby causes a number of ions as a result of extreme heat on the surface of the vehicle.

That I believe occurs at a lower altitude than van Allan belt (feel free to correct me if I am wrong)

Van Allan belt, since contains large amount of ions, can cause disruptions to communication, I think (as per above, correct me if I am wrong)
