Hey,

I'm seriously considering this course, but am a bit worried about job prospects after uni. Television is a very narrow field with, presumeably, limited job options.

Can anyone tell me the careers that can come out of this degree, and whether it opens doors to any other industry as well as a by product.

I don't suppose it would, but it's worth a check.

What career would you like to be in after uni? Answer that question and then you will then have the answer to your question.

Hi,
I am not actually a TV prod student but I am doing the acting course which does a lot of work alongside the TV course. One of my mates who is doing the course had a family friend complete the course and end up working for the ABC where she still is after several promotions. The course seems to (Proddies correct me if I am wrong) provide you with training for many various job including, camera work, editing, floor managerment, producing, directing, lighting, sound and quite a few others which I just can't think of. While you don't "specialise" as such if you really like camera work you can put yourself down to do camera on your projects etc. A word of warning this is NOT angled toward Film production at all if that is the field you want to go in to you could go on to do further training from this course to get the skills, but the TV production course is just that TV Production.
It does take a lot of hours and take up a fair bit of time outside class to shoot assessment pieces and doing the editing side of things. Think hard about whether or not this is something you really want to do because you do need a real commitment to it.
Hope that helps answer your question.
Cheers,
Chelle
