Anyone else think its weird that Lehman was taken out but not Hayden? I mean whilst neither has truly excelled recently with the bat, Lehman has done a darn site more than Hayden.

Also, Who exactly is James Hopes??

I think because Hayden is a little younger, and has more potential to bounce back, we've seen him terrorise many opening spells from opposition. Whilst with Lehmann, Aust has a strong middle order as it is, with Katich and Clarke comfortably saving Aust's ass a few times this season. James Hope's is a bit like Shane Watson, He's batting average is in the low 30's and bowling at about 29.

hayden is a class player, hes just in a form slump

a little over 12 months ago damien martyn was in the same position, you can't judge a player of hayden's calibre by a relatively small (yet recent) form slump, coz he's got the class, willpower, support & experience to come through the other side

i would prefer stuart macgill to cameron white, and brad hogg to shane watson

my team would therefore be

1 gilchrist
2 hayden
3 ponting
4 clarke
5 martyn
6 symonds
7 hogg
8 lee
9 gillespie
10 mcgrath
11 macgill
12th man lehmann

there is a lack of batsmen there but there are enough 4 them to bat through........and the quality of bowling is enough 4 the side to be a superpower still

must be a tough job for the selectors though

Are the pitches in NZ that good for spinners though?

I just meant that at the moment, it seemed a bit stupid for Hayden to be in the side, especially if he still opens (which i assume he will), I probably would've put Hogg in the side as well, If only Justin Langer played ODI's!

Pitches in NZ suit medium/slow bowlers. they dont turn as much, but it stuffs batsmen up because the bounce can be unpredictable and the ball doesnt hit the face of the bat as quick.

my team would be

1. Hayden
2. Langer (He is a class player i dont know why they leave him out, he used to be more of a defensive player, but he is not any more)
3. Ponting (c)
4. Gilchrist (wk)(vc) ( I know this seems odd but he would bat well anywhere)
5. Clarke
6. Martyn
7. Symonds (maybe move him up the order if there is the need)
8. Hogg
9. Lee (2)
10. Gillespie
11. McGrath (1)
