Is there a focus on techniques in Lear as well?? I thought it was just themes and productions? There is so much to remember already....Do I really need to know techniques?

sigh I hope not!
This module is just crazy.......it would be easier to memorise the whole play word by word
But look on the bright side, its not all bad, at least we get 40 minutes!

I asked our head of English this one - he said that they're really unlikely to have a question which asks you to focus on language/techniques, but it's good to know so you can weave them into your essay. For example if you're doing a productions question and you're talking about Act 1 Scene 1 in a feminist viewpoint, you can talk about production techniques you use to establish Lear as the figurehead of patriarchal power. Then you can say that Lear's authority is further emphasised by his use of language - use of royal plurals, imperatives, etc.

Royal plurals = using "our" and "we" instead of "my" and "I", for example when he says "know that we have divided in three our kingdom"
Imperatives = commands eg. "give me the map there"

Do you go to MLC?
