Trials is usually harder on average, but the HSC can pull out randomly hard questions in an otherwise easy paper

if it's CSSA it 's stapled like a book
if it's independent it's stapled like a booklet

That means it’s not CSSA

If it has a weird sorta thick super tall font for the front page text, then it’s independent. If it has a weird modern looking font then it might be NEAP

it depends, we did both ind and catholic and imo i found independent not "easy" but less challenging than CSSA

There are lots of places that sell papers and plenty of schools who make an exam by taking parts from multiple sources... plus many schools write the exam themselves. Swapping just a few questions can change the difficulty of an exam by quite a bit.

Also, Trials are meant to suit the cohort doing them whilst the HSC cohort is the whole state - so if your school group is strong relative to the state as a whole, a harder paper is appropriate.
