I didn't like this question!

If people have forgotton, it was the one with Beeftown, Bananatown and Dairyville or something

How did you answer it?

Keep in mind, they said "Assume it's non-infectious"

I think you could BS your way through it...

i wrote
1 survey people in the area
2 test water
3 test ill people
4 look upstream
5 test animals
etc.
then i wrote a paragraph tying it all together

hmmm i had no idea... i took a wild guess... i just said to map out where the infected ppl live, who showed the symptoms first, whether the water or food supply was shared by these people... whether insect populations were greater around where these people lived and to just work out the probability of were it came from by these facts

that one was soooo crap! I didn't really know either, my friends all put that it was the river water but wouldn't that make it infectious? and why would only one person in each family, usually the infant, get the disease?

Well my theory was that something was contaminating the river and biomagnifying in the fish the nana people were eating the fish... obviously i didn't state this explicitly, just said what sampling and surveying and stuff you would do to find this out. E.g. looking at industry/agriculture which could affect the river, examining what foods people in nana town at and where it came from etc.

but the thing is the river flows to the east, so there would have to be 2 contaminations for 3 towns to be affected

OMG I TOTALLY LOST 8 MARKS!! craaaaaaap... i wrote about koch's postulates... i thought to identify the origin of the diesease meant to identify the pathogen..

i might have got 1 or 2 marks for talking about analysing the backgrounds of people (where they lived, what they had been eating, places/people exposed to) etc...

this was excellent question
for those who hav 'spotlight biology' or 'success one biology' it would hav been a breeze

basically conduct distributive analysis of the area
staring from point of first infection outwards
conduct surveys of those infected, ask questions on age, gender etc, what they were doing month leading up to infection
conduct analytical tests of surrounding area
rivers, lakes, water supplies, air
also survey ppl on gall island
do desripitive, analytics and exterimental analysis of the area
um oh there is sooo much
but i'm confident i rekon 7-8 marks

Well Koch Postulates is wrong cause that is to do with Infectious Disease...

- I went isolate the people developing symptons with the disease from different geographical areas
- Idenfity common elements from the sick people (diet, genetic, enivronmental)
- Use Gull Island as a control
- Make links between the people with the disease from the common elements- then isolate these factors)
- After we know what causes the disease find ways to prevent or cure the disease

Thats wat I put... prob half to 3/4 marks
