not to be rude or anything but those drummers aren't that outstanding
a better list follows:
buddy rich
john bonham - led zeppelin
ian paice - deep purple
mitch mitchell - jimi hendrix experience
gene krupa
dave weckl
steve gadd
virgil donati
keith moon - the who
ringo starr -beatles (even though his skills arent really out there, he was a musical pioneer at the time, and he kept it simple!!!)
there are some others too
Did you know McCartney used to go in at night time and change Ringo's drum tabs?
I thought that was hilarious.

Thats probably why it was so simple.

Buddy Rich, Mike Portnoy (it took me months to learn stream of consciousness for my HSC), Brain, Travis Barker, Jose Pasillas, Lars Ulrich...but Chad Smith is the bomb.

dave lombardo ian paice and bonham definately.

ian paice had excellent technically ability.
i can tell a drummer is good when i actually notice the drumming.

case in point: ian paice. there's a part in space trucking... i had no idea a drummer could go that fast. (there's probably some crazy metal drummer who can go faster, but i dont give a shit about crazy metal)

Why have I encountered the name Lars Ulrich at least twice in this thread?

Although Ian Paice's technical presicion can make you sit up and take notice, Bonham's sheer ferocity, and the complexity of his beats make him the undisputed king. Listen to the bizzarre beat scheme on Fool in the Rain, the crushing inevitability of When the Levee breaks, the virtuosity of Godd Times Bad Times, and of course Moby Dick, preferably the BBC version as the later versions are somewhat less spectacular (or maybe I just got over drum solos [heaven forbid]).

the original is by the postal service, not death cab ;) i like the iron and wine one, but yeah, it just doesn't live up to the postal service one.
