B Admin is a more generalist degree with NO majors at all...
B Comm has nearly the same first year core subjects, but the difference lies in the fact that you are able to major!!!!!
eg accounting! :p

This should be the last, undisputed post in this thread......

UOW has one of the most superior BComm and/or B Admin in Australia. If you want to graduate from a prestigious and handsome uni, then UOW is the way to go. :p :p :p

and if you think that i am in anyway bias, then look at my sig! :D

Macquarie offers both commerce and business administration, it's harder to transfer into a business administration degree than a commerce degree there

business administration is like the undergraduate version of an MBA (Masters in business administration) .... it's a generalist degree aimed at managing and stuff like that... you get to choose two options (majors) at the end so you DO major in stuff... i don't think u get qualified for it though, only downside to it... i.e if u major in accounting in a commerce degree, ur registered as a blah blah.... Otherwise business administration allows you touch upon all aspects of business

At macquarie.. it's harder to get into a business administration degree than it is to transfer into a commerce degree... it's a better degree than a commerce degree i think, depending on what you want to do... but since you said you want to have own ur own business... do a Business Administration degree

UTS had business administration before as well till they changed commerce, business administration all to Bbusiness.

Anyway that is all, hope that helped. I suggest you look at the good uni's guide...

In essence
UNSW
USYD
MACQ
UTS
UWS (the parra one only!)
Australian National University
University of Wollongong

They're the ONLY uni's i'de consider going to if i was doing a Business degree

n e way thats my opinion

B Commerce is the old name...
notice that all the old universities, the course is called B Commerce.. and all the newer universities its called B Business...

i know dat uws it used to b B Commerce, but now changed to B Business.....

The difference i noticed in the subjects that you gotta do is this:

2nd and 3rd year are for the 2 Majors... so they remain the same.
its only 1st year thats different.
in B Commerce you gotta do micro economics and macro economics, and also accounting 1a and accounting 1b

where as in business you only do 1 intro economics subject instead of the the 2 micro and macro.. and only 1 accounting subject instead of the 2.... this gives a B Business degree a wider diversity of subject areas to study from in the first year ranging from accounting to economics to marketing to finance to management to law to computers to maths and statistics to e-business :)

so B Business is actually better than B Commerce
as B Commerce is out of date and is the old version of B Business...
all them old unis such as unsw and usyd and umac should realli change the course name to B Business like the newer unis all did..

I don't see the point in majoring in Accounting without getting qualified as a CPA/CA..........unless you can come up with an advantage of doing so. :)

Yeah I don't like that fact either...(btw u dont get qualified as a CPA/C.A straight out of uni... u have to do more study n take a test or something blreeghh i havnt really looked into it coz i dont want to be an accountant but yeah i heard u have to do a test first before u become a Chartered accountant) but the bba is designed to be a generalist degree giving students a broad exposure to a range of areas of which is important in the functioning of an organisation. Further specialisation would mean that som areas would not be addressed. ..... so yeah thats why im combining it a BBA with an arts-psychology degree... anyz yeahh

This is all good but you really need to know what type of business. Perhaps you should consider a double degree so that you can learn about the field that your business will be in.

Also remember, you have to pay off HECS debt once your out of uni.

University may not be the best way...

For example, there are books like "The 10 day MBA" and the like, which teach you quite alot of practical things about starting/running a business.

TAFE also has courses like business admin etc etc...

All of that is much cheaper than the 7-8 (i think?) grand a year for uni.
