Normally you can just wait until the first week and the lecturers will tell you what to get, and even though you may miss out if you leave it a week or two, you don't have to worry about lining up for an hour in the rain. If you do miss out, you can always get them to order one in or just order off the website, or try the co-op or the 2nd hand, it's generally not a big problem if you don't have the text book, oh yeah, and there's the library.

So I suggest waiting until you start, and if I remember right, o-week isn't about getting helpful answers, it's about free pens and frisbees.
