Ugh god no. Let the commerce students go for that one.

It's commercial litigation for me then off to the bar.

...and then maybe the bench in about 35 years from now :)
i went to this talk by a barrister about "the right time to go to the bar" or something and she said, if you want to do it then go there straight after uni/col/bar exams whatever, all stuff about needing connections developed when practising as solicitor is rubbish (?)
interestingly she went straight to the bar and has vg career.

(btw- immediate family member was/is barrister/judge )

Ah that'd be good.

One day, I'll be sitting in my office as Partner of a Big4 accounting firm, reviewing graduates on their tax work for clients, and whether they correctly cited Michael J on an important full high court judgement.

I'll have to get you to assign one of your underlings to do my accounting/tax for me lol

no chance in hell I'm going to HC though, insane pressure, INSANE!

Ah that's quite interesting - because I would probably rather jump straight to the bar. I thought experience as a solicitor is a necessity at first, because of lack of connections, etc

that is one massive qualifier which rules me out of jumping straight from uni to bar :p

The amount of legal knowledge and the depth that HC justices possess is incredible.

That's why you have to find a 'teacher' with the same amount of experience. That's the hard part....:uhhuh:

.....and no income for a while....:(

The pensions that judges get are outrageous, although I sure wouldn't be complaining if I got one.

Well I think they get about 3/4 of their salary a year as a pension after they retire.

That's the reason a lot of barristers are willing to forfeit their massive incomes to become a judge (obviously the prestige and interesting job plays a big factor as well).

But a Supreme Court judge who earns about $280k a year will thus retire on $210k a year for doing nothing. No matter how much capital you have it's pretty hard to earn money like that through investments.
