Im interested to know who here considers this album the best in terms of hip-hop. I remember reading somewhere that hiphophooray didnt really like it, but what about the rest of you? Heres some info.....

Having split from N.W.A and Eazy-E, Dre's first solo album established him as one of the biggest rap stars of his era. The Chronic brought the genre now known as G-funk to the mainstream — a genre defined by slow bass beats and melodic synthesizers, topped by P-Funk samples, female vocals, and a slurring lyrical delivery referred to as a “lazy drawl”.

The album is also credited with launching the careers of several prominent West Coast hip-hop artists, including Snoop Doggy Dogg, Dat Nigga Daz, Kurupt, Nate Dogg, Warren G, RBX and Lady of Rage —all of whom went on to pursue (more or less) successful commercial careers.

The Chronic is widely regarded as the album that redefined West Coast rap [1], demonstrated gangsta rap's commercial potential as a multi-platinum commodity, and established G-funk as the most popular sound in hip hop music for several years after its release, with Dre himself producing several major albums that drew heavily on his production style.[2] [3][4] Furthermore, the album's success established Death Row Records as a dominant force in mid-1990s hip-hop.

i don't remember saying i didnt like it, i remember saying that i don't think as much of it as other people seem to do. I prefer 'the infamous' 'illmatic' 'ready to die' and 'reasonable doubt' to 'the chronic' but its a brilliant album don't get me wrong.

Rage Agains The Machine LP>> THe battle of Los Angeles just quietly. But yeah chronic is a pretty solid album. As far as best album, its pretty overrated. Eazy E, NWA, Ice Cube, Pharcyde alla have better albums. Still a very
good album.

uh if your defining it by effect then it is far more than just an 'average album.' It started many careers, started g-funkish trend, regiestered dr dre as one of the greatest hip hop producers of all time, and bought ALOT of love to the westcoast.

That album is allright..not a classic in my book
2001 was shit...
i never really liked that westcoast movement..cuz it's all about acting gangsta when u are really not << and that's what dre introduced. Ice Cube on "No vaseline" exposes NWA as a bunch of fake gangsters.. and i think hes right

Rakim didnt even like working with dre cuz dre will always tell him to act gangsta, when Rakim really wants to be the "concsious" emcee

theres still beautiful things coming out of the south (*cough* T.I *cough*), cee-lo still making that soulful music, OutKast are getting ready to drop idlewood, killer mike, bun-b, pimp c is free, 8ball and mjg are gonna drop soon, ludacris might return to his roots with this upcoming album, stat quo gonna drop this year and you know his gonna have good beats with production from dj paul and juixy j, paul wall is choppin and screwin....south ain't too bad...its not all about the lyrics (but if u want lyrics then u got tip, outkast, killler mike, bun-b and cee-lo)

that album by da backwudz leaked today and its nice, nas spits a nice verse on 'your gonna love me remix'

D4L and DFB are fuckin it all up though.

somehting just irritates me about the beats from da south.. like even in Bun_b 's Trill, though i like his style I just cant stand those clubby beats. If pimpC is out, then when is UGK dropping new stuff?
I dont know about Outkast and LUdacris. I know they both had classic in their past, i just got that feeling that their music is going to be centered on radio appeal...

All im saying is that the south in general is dropping garbage.. and im talking about that crunk garbage. Westcoast aint much of a different story...

I think the East coast remains the best... just always quality music...
