don't read on if you haven't read the book....

at the end where the savage commits suicide, and his feet turn one way in a circle, and then the other way, what is that all about, and what is the significance of using navigational terms, (north, north-east) etc. i got to the end, and i didn't understand it, and so i was disappointed...please help me out

In general terms, Huxley uses this symbolism to portray the concept that even in its purest form, humanity (John) cannot escape from nature (compass bearings). The two are indelibly interconnected. This contrasts with the over-riding concept explored throughout BNW that humanity (within Huxley's personal totalitarian context) is gradually becoming divorced and separated from nature. *insert quote*.. and whamo a B6.
