Re: Recipies Suggestion

Steamed Fish Parcel - very healthy - prep time should be 5 minutes, but it takes longer to cook

You'll need:

1 piece firm fillet of fish (salmon works well, as does ling and if you're on student budget, I've found that gemfish is cheap and tasty)
chopped parsley
salt
pepper
1tsp white sugar
the juice of half a lemon
1/4 wine glass white wine
capers from a jar about a tbsp or so

So.

Preheat oven to 200 degrees.

Take a baking tray and a large (say 40cm) length of baking paper.

Place fish on baking paper, in the centre. Put everything except the lemon juice and wine over and around the fish.

Kinda randomly fold up the sides of the paper - its hard to describe, it should look like a little boat. Fold the edges up around the sides and staple at regular intervals (ever 2cm or so). You don't want the parcel to be air tight - steam will be able to escape so don't be too particular. Before closing off the "parcel" pour the white wine and lemon juice through the top. Fold over the top and staple close.

Put in oven. Go have a shower (ie, bake for about 15 - 20 minutes) and when you open the parcel, mind the steam.

Enjoy!

NB: You could serve this with some rice that you could do while the fish is cooking as well as steamed veggies.

To do it all in the same parcel thing, prepare 1/2 a cup of cous cous before hand and slice up any vegies really thin (so they cook faster) Make the piece of baking paper bigger and stick those in all over the fish too. Works a treat.

If you like Asian flavours, skip the parsley, wine, lemon juice and capers and put in coriander, sliced ginger, a little bit of black bean paste, chilli flakes, soy sauce, fish sauce, mirin - go to town!

The principle is the same. Any thing that "goes together" (you know, how tomato and basil was made for each other, or like ginger and soy sauce) stick it in and bake in a "paper bag." Keeps all the flavour and nutrients in.

And the best bit? You don't have to wash it up. Just throw it into the bin when you're done!

basa fillets are cheap, tender and don't have an overpowering fishy taste- you can usually find them in the deli at any supermarket

doesnt make them COOK faster, but it scambles them in, as i said, literally 2 seconds.
eg. i planned to make an omelete up the coast; whisked up eggs, added milk (i've made more scrambled eggs than omeletes recently, so i kinda forgot), put in pan with oil, eggs had started to scramble before i had a chance to think about it. end result - scrambled eggs, with tomato, cheese, mushrooms, and a FUCK TONNE of s&p
edit: how do you guys get your scrambled eggs to taste like anything other than oil? or am i just putting too much in?
I don't put in oil. There's this spray i use. I forgot. Some cooking stuff.

I agree with:

1. Mi Goreng
2. Toast (butter + nutella = all. You. Need.)

Also, just make yourself a tea if you can't be bothered making something to eat. Warm liquids keep you full for some reason.

Draws blood to the stomach, hence feeling of fullness.

New recipe improvised from recent school camp.

1 slice of flour tortilla
3 slices of tomato
Mozzarella cheese
Shredded lettuce
A dollop of Tsatsiki sauce or exotic sauce of choice
Precooked minced meat with puree + chickpeas
Herbs of choice

Wrap everything up in the tortilla. Then eat. Perhaps shove in oven for a few minutes to melt mozzarella.

Omelette

Chop 1/2 small onion and 1/2 small tomato. Maybe mushies or ham if you want them.
Chuck it all in a pan with some olive oil.
Lightly beat one egg with one tablespoon of water.
Chuck it in pan once the onions are transparent.
Cook for a bit.
Sprinkle cheese on top.
Grill until the top is firm and good.

EAT IT NOW! Perhaps with beetroot cubes.

That's a frittata, right? Not an omelette. :S

I think you just have to fold it for it to become an omelette.

I didn't want to fold mine so maybe it is a frittata.

And the water tells the eggs what to become. Same as milk tells eggs to become scrambled.

Yeah, then it is a frittata.

I add milk when i make an omelette, and I don't grill it, I just fry it lightly on the other side. Oh, and no cheese. =p

My friends recently have had 'tuna parties':

Need:
A can (or as many cans) of tuna, preferably the spreadable ones (my favourite at the moment is Greenseas Mayonnaise and Mustard Seed)
A pack of plain, dippable, toppable, wholegrain biscuits

Method:
1. Open can of tuna (be careful not to spill or cut yourself on the sharp edges of the can)
2. Dip a single plain, dippable, toppable, wholegrain w/e biscuit into tuna, scooping up as much fish as you can.
3. Eat.

Much healthier than most conventional school lunches and very filling. Make sure you have a mint and drink water after, unless you want to smell like the fish market on a Sunday morning. You can also bring a small impromptu salad of lettuce, tomato and other assorted vegetables, and top the biscuit with that, using the tuna as a sort of glue, lol.
