The impacts of globalisation on govt policy? well the simple ideas u could talk about include the governments emerging emphasis on microeconomic reform to improve domestic efficieny and to encourage freer competition through the removal of protectionist policies.

u either go to Mercy or Chatty High rite?

anyway, if im reading your statement correctly, ur asking about the impacts of globalisation upon governement policies..well in recent times, the government has shifted its policy emphasis towards microeconomic reforms, because the growth in the global economy has encouraged greater efficieny and freer trade, also involving the changing direction and composition of trade flows...governemnt policy therefore is influenced by globalisation because the gov't must account for these changes through its policy of removing protectionist policies, deregulating the labour market and most industries in general, allowing greater competition and market emphasis, allowing for specialisation and comparative advantage...

k that was all off my head, so I think your textbook should give a clearer picture...it should be in the first few pages of Topic 4?

Another approach that may be easier to organise in essay form would be if you went through the 5 aspects of globalisation and related it to govt policies.

Trade: reduced tariffs, diversifying (e.g advertising for tourism, overseas students etc) participating in free trade deals with singapore, trying to join asean, pushing for the woodside deal to china, the doha round of WTO etc ---> balance of trade

Investment: talk about considering changing investment rules and media ownership, the impact of interest rates above world interest rates ----> balance of trade etc

Finance: same as above really, interest rates the floating dollar etc

Technology: the need to better consider privacy laws and laws governing the internet (there was a case i think where gutnik could sue an american website for libel...), opening up telecommunications markets, encouraging R&D with grants to improve export efficiency etc

Labour: reduce the power of the unions, changing unfair dismissal laws, changes to taxes to encourage ppl to return home, introduction of GST could perhaps be covered here and in investment because as a broad based tax it reduces distortions caused by taxes, privatised job placement services to reduce labour market inefficiencies, "improvements" to education system etc

Again, i know there's other stuff that needs to be considered, what minai was saying etc, but i dunno its just kinda wat came to my mind (but it is late and i am tired, so hehe maybe the post should best be entirely disregarded :p )
