I watched that movie starring Ben Stiller: Along Came Polly. The character's job in the movie is an actuarian...does it depict the real job of an actuarian (punching details about people to calculate risks - seems very easy)?

i saw that movie a few years ago...it looked like he was developing one-off individual policies for high sum insured clients.. Stiller's role looked like he was just focusing on whether or not these clients were insurable or not...so no, this isn't typically what the actuary does.

Yeah I do. It's already quite full on. But apparently all the stats we learn are never actually used as an actuary (thanks for correcting me)

Actually come to think of it ANU doesn't offer an "intro to actuary" course. A quick look at the website shows the course was discontinued...so I don't do any intro to act. courses.
