With MRBS it says you have to commit to 6years of rural practice once you have completed their basic medical and postgraduate training. What if you want to specialise? Im pretty confused as to when you go to the rural place?

And one other question...It states that there are 100 MRBS scholarships available, is the 100 split between every uni in Aus that offers undergrad med? Or post grad aswell?
dude... people would strangle you because you're calling grad med, post grad med. :p

Anyways, yes MRBS are distributed to every single uni. As for specialing, it'll depend on which specialist course you want to do. I think they'll list which specialist courses are available to mrbs students. There would still be a good range, just that you won't be able to do those ones like neurosurgery as they require major hospitals near capital cities. Hwoever, places like Tamworth are rural and will accept surgeons/specialists of all sorts. I read a pdf from www.amsa.org.au and it listed the specialist positions available to most hospitals in many regions (you can find it, i cbf looking for it again :)

EDIT- Bond Uni don't offer BMP or MRBS. There might be a few more that don't have it but they'd probably those unis that none of us would apply for. If i find any more i'll add em

well combined science medicine comes with a 6K scholarship (in total) for 3 years, plus 5K simply for UAI, which I'll get for the 4th and 5th years in grad medicine.

Yeah each uni has a different way, most just fill in a form before/after interviews.

Is the money enough? It matter what you do with it - I'm saving it so yeah, but you can do what you want.

no offence dude, but if your worrying about the workload of a medical student i wouldn't even think about doing it. Its a subject which requires pure passion, which were workload won't disturb you at all.
People that are doing this course not on passion should just get slashed.

I guess you definetly need passion, but I guess you also have to have a bit of concern. While I'm only just finished 1st I'm sure in the next couple of years I'm going to find myself sacrificing more and more to get the job done, but only time will tell.

I agree with Keen. Passion is definitely important, but one thing the interviewers will be looking for is a practical mind to go with said passion. There are a lot of people who are extremely passionate but otherwise unsuitable.

PS: Li0n, I laugh at your PhD in kendo. Especially when you have no bokutou. :p Get some Aikido, that'll make a man of you. :p
