Seeing as i have no idea what and what not to bring, i wanted to ask if you people will post a brief summarised list of stuff which you will all be bringing to the dorms. That way, i can say 'oh crap, i forgot to bring *blah blah* which you are going to bring, thanks for reminding me etc etc crap crap.'

To start things going -

My List -

Clothing

Cooking utensils...4 plates, 3 massive salad bowls, a wok, saucepan, frying pan, forks, spoons, chopsticks *Yup..i'm asian*

Linen

Goods with Sentimental value - photos etc etc

Tidy organiser plastic drawer thingys

Enrolment forms

Compooter

And other useless crap i think may come in handy such as money and various other monetary goods.

No one remind me of the pretentiousness of quoting myself

Add to that, computer, other electronic equipment you might want, drug testing kit (in case your girlfriend wants to kill you... it's happened at ANU before ).

and the drug testing kit? I'd be lying if i said i thought of that but now that you mentioned it, i'm going to buy one and off to canberra i go

Do you have to provide your own sheets in B&G?

Yes. The only thing they provide you with is:
A portion of a fridge, the portion has a lock on it.
Access to a freezer if you request it.
A room with a matress, a matress protector, a book shelf, a shelf, a desk, a desk lamp, a wardrobe.
Electricity, water, gas, heater.

That's really it. So yes, you need to bring all your own linen etc.

It's not a hotel. They have a laundry. You have to provide your own washing powders etc but the use of the machines to the best of my knowledge is free.

You're on your own now, you're an 'independent adult', you don't have anyone to wash, cook or clean for you

Seeing as we are going off topic, following the trend of most threads in ANU forum -

is anyone gonna add items onto the massive list ziff has already posted?

I would also like to inform you all that i'm royally screwed and that washing linen is not my specialty. The handbook suggests linen should be washed once every 2 weeks. AS IF. I'm looking at washing it once...hmmm...3 months. But if i can get away with it, once every 6 months.

shit, i'm sooooo dead.

and i think all dorms have a wash basin.

pfft...so there's no kettle and i dont' have one...who cares - using my asian heritage and my unique skillz in the art of boiling water with my eyelids, i should have NO PROBLEMS.

you should probably wash your sheets like once a week (every 2 weeks if u are that lazy) and your doona cover prob every 3 weeks or so... it's not that hard - just put the sheets in the machine, put in some powder and turn it on - then u just have to hang them out or put them in the dryer... then back on the bed - it's not a big drama....
