the labor party in australia is by no means what it started as.
when it started it was a socilist through democratic means party.
it was created by the unions and gained power through strikes,
however it now is going out to give rights to bosses and isn't even going to bring back the right to strike.
i am personal calling for the left of the labor party to break free and creat there own party, on that will fight for them and what they belive this would at least force the labor party into a coalition with them.

P.S i know i am a dirty communist.

This is definately the most right-wing left party. However why is that a problem? Things now under a long time of right-winged-ness are better than they have ever been. As Allan Jones once said "These are the good ol' days." In a couple of years things might change though, the economy is meant to crash soon, so maybe your split-away idea may work.

Labor didn't gain power through strikes. It was formed by the unions as an alternative to strikes, because the massive strikes of the 1890s had failed to achieve change.

I think personally that when a lot of people vote labor they are voting for the social liberal labor party of Whitlam etc...Its no longer social liberal a bit more leaning towards conservative like the Liberal Party.

I think that on social issues Labor is broadly 'left'. Reconciliation, gay rights, republic, independent ABC board and so on.

Indeed. And thus, if the left were to break away from the right and ally itself with the greens, then they would attract quite a large vote as opposed to making itself """unelectable""" (lol).

How many people are in unions these days versus 30 years ago?

Left and right are just relative terms (obviously). Who is to say where they truly lie. I much prefer the political compass model which shows Labor as being slightly right wing on economic issues and slightly authoritarian as opposed to libertarian. An assessment that seems reasonably accurate. In relation to the liberal party they would be slightly less right wing and authoritarian, so if your a leftie they are still a preferable alternative to the coalition.
I do agree that left and right really are outdated but a lot of ppl still use it.
Optophobia - in the end the members of the major parties vote the same way anyway thats what we are classifying them by, that and they are supposed to support the same policy platforms.

Are u kidding. They would just be competing with the greens for the socialist "real left wing vote." As you would be aware Green votes flow 80% to Labor anyway. They wouldnt woo any marginal voters considering voting for the coalition which is what will win them elections. Instead they would allienate these more conservative voters. So perhaps not unelectable, but it would reduce their chances.
You seriously underestimate how many people vote for the ALP because of their lovely little social democratic (read: communist) policies. If the split were managed well with the commies demonising the alp right (note: i'm using these terms in regards to the factions in the alp), i reckon we could end up with a three party system. yay.

But these people will have to vote for the Labor or the Greens (same effect) anyway.
No, they would have to vote between Labor, and the hybridisation of the Greens and Labor. It would be an entirely difference situation.

But you can allienate more right wing voters, these voters that swing between the coalition and ALP are what determine elections and a leftist Labor party will not win them over.
And of the fact that none of them could form a majority government? I never said that such a party would be elected (in the near future anyway), but it would hardly be unelectable in the sense that it would be grossly unpopular.

u srsly need to do some research. the labour party was founded after the sheep shearing strikes of the 1890's failed to bring about change, because the working class realised that respectable politics would do them more good than striking and fucking our economy up/losing their own money.
