OMG! I'm not even finished, and it's my new fave! In The Hand of the Goddess has finally been surpased!
For those of you who don't know, it's the sequal to Trickster's Choice by Tamora Pierce. It follows Aly, daughter of the legenday Lioness, who is kidnapped by pirates and sold into slavery in a neighboring country. Plans to escape are discarded when Kyprioth, Trickster God, makes a wager with Aly: keep the children of the family she serves alive until the autumn equinox, and he will send her home. It isn't long before Aly realises there's more to this than there seems, and is caught up in a plot to put Sarai, a half black girl, on the throne.
Now it's stage 2: getting rid of the current rulers is a good start! But Sarai ruins everything. SPOILER! She elopes with a Carthaki! So now they have to make the people accept her sister Dove! Dove would be a better queen anyway. And the Darkings return! Yayness!
