It's great. I've been doing a lot of history, as you can guess. There are a few core units (all ancient) and a few options (which area and ancient languages you want to do), as well as electives. My electives are all pretty much historiography subjects (this sem, I'm doing 'History on Film' as well as modern languages (german and french- needed to read all the original archaeology reports).Edit: pawr, whats b.ancient.history like ? .. what subjects do u do ?
If you're unsure, do a Bachelor of Arts. That way, you can make your decision after you've tried it out. You can always transfer.hipPo3 said:yea .. i was thinking of doing B in ancient history in uni .. i love ancient history, but the subjests im not too sure about
Is it anything like high school style of teachings or what ?
i dont think ill get a UAI high enuf to get into arts ..PwarYuex said:If you're unsure, do a Bachelor of Arts. That way, you can make your decision after you've tried it out. You can always transfer.
Have you thought about non-award at Macquarie, or other universities' equivalents?hipPo3 said:i dont think ill get a UAI high enuf to get into arts ..
Thx to my low marks, i have to spend a year doing something interesting but not something i want to do..
non-award ? .. havent heard of itPwarYuex said:Have you thought about non-award at Macquarie, or other universities' equivalents?
Yeah, Mac's the only uni in the world (as far as I know) that has a BAncHist(hons) degree.hipPo3 said:non-award ? .. havent heard of it
which uni u goto ? Maq ?
haha .. i never knew thatPwarYuex said:Yeah, Mac's the only uni in the world (as far as I know) that has a BAncHist(hons) degree.
Are you serious.... Macq library has more info on Egyptian stuff than any other library in NSW. The state library has nothing, as do the other public libraries, and since no other uni does Egypt throughout the undergrad degree, Macquarie's it.hipPo3 said:haha .. i never knew that
thier library has shit resources on Cleo or the Ptolemy era ..
Well .. it was my first time.. im sort of a virginPwarYuex said:Are you serious.... Macq library has more info on Egyptian stuff than any other library in NSW. You must be pretty stupid or something... Are you sure you went to the right areas? You realise that Ancient Books are scattered all around the library- PA is philology, PG is interpretation of sources, DT is archaeology, BS-BT is on religion, DF is historical theory, PJ is on general Egyptian stuff (probably where you ended up...), there's also DS and NA (I think NA's on architecture).
You should have done a catalogue search, rather than just wandering - there are over 90 books with just the basic term 'Ptolemy' in the titleship. You obviously suck at navigating big buildings (don't worry, I used to, too...)
I have no idea why, but when you first go into that huge and disorganised library, you get nervous. The first time I went in there, I kept walking around pretending that I wasn't lost. Frankly, I think they should adopt the dewy system or whatever it's called.hipPo3 said:Well .. it was my first time.. im sort of a virgin
umm, i went to DS section .. i did find sources on Sparta and Unification period to O.K but i couldnt find any sources on Cleo ..
the sad thing was i asked the azn chick at the info desk, and she told me use the catalougue (also she said that most of the books are upstairs), Since i was all on my lonesome. i was nervous. When i first went on the catalouge i didnt know wtf i was doing .. so i winged it. I had over 6 hrs of studying to do so i might as well look for the books if they're in sections .. I found the Histories section near the photocopying room in the first 5 mins .. yippee
yea .. i knowPwarYuex said:I have no idea why, but when you first go into that huge and disorganised library, you get nervous. The first time I went in there, I kept walking around pretending that I wasn't lost. Frankly, I think they should adopt the dewy system or whatever it's called.
I totally understand the whole nervous thing, it's as if you think people will judge you or something. That's why I think they should boost the mentoring system there.
That's very true. You're coming tomorrow? Can you add me to msn.hipPo3 said:yea .. i know
i was walking around trying to read every sign so i knew what was where .. +the pople in uni are very different to those in high school .. thier louder, more individualised, more azns and its very scary the way they look at u
my bro laughed at me after i told him i didnt know how to work thier catalouges :'( .. what a bint he is
