Guns N' Roses did get a bit commercialised in the end, but that doesn't matter, because they were always real. They were always the guys who were just riding this wave. Not a bunch of emo punks who caught onto a craze after their record company told them to.

LO-fuckin'-L - a bit commercialied? They were just about the biggest band in the world from the beginning...they abused drugs, declined in quality (and became less prolific) and eventually collapsed into the void they're stuck in now. But a great hard rock band, better than all the rest and I totally adore them.

Yeah well music is more subjective than politics really...that being said, Slash is awesome but jimi was more influencial i reckon. They're about even when it comes to craziness on stage though. Slash has his cool hair and could play fkn incredible riffs, but well, Hendrix did smashed and burnt several guitars including Pete Townshed's guitar when he played with The Who (and that was in the 60's)

Uh, remembering the time when we first listenned to rock and all I knew was "Iron Maiden is the best" or smt like.... "I'll love Kurt forever" . It's been more than 10 years, perspective's changed. I reckon we need time & real music experiences to get over that "subjective feeling" in the early stage, which I believe happens to every rocker.

Rock is the only pop musical genre to last the decades. All other genres have either been underground (hip hop), or have completely died out (disco).

I dont know what you are talking about. I didn't compare GNR with the monkees, I compared the monkees with simple plan (and other such bands). They are all corporatised trash.

Slash is actually probably a better more dynamic guitarist, but then theres a little more credit that goes to the guy that invented modern guitar playing, so I guess thats why jimi gets all the kudos, and fair enuff.

Id rethink that. They were the biggest band in the world no question about it. They abused drugs, but then they always abused drugs (steve adler even openly admits to sucking cock for coke in their pre famous days). They definately didn't decline in quality (this is the statement that gets me most) - in fact they matured. Appetite was an explosive record that put them on the scene, but musically use your illusion is a far more comprehensive, and musically mature set of albums. They didnt collapse into any void. They broke up when they were still the biggest band in the world. They just didn't have a single decision that lead to them breaking up (as of course technically Guns N' Roses still exists with axl rose), so people think that they are just another relic of the 80's that faded away. This is NOT the case at all.

Heard some stuff off their new album today through a friend. It's not bad, but it's nowhere near as good as their old stuff. Don't get me wrong, I love their stuff, but their best songs left with Slash. And Axl's always been a great frontman, but a very, very big tool.
