the judges seem to have leant the same way as the customs official. in the judgement one mentioned schappelle saying 'yes it is mine' or 'yes its marijuana'

and sure you would presume that something in someone's bag belongs to them but when that something is 4 kg of marijuana you'd want more than just a presumption in order to convict them of importing drugs

it is far more likely that 4kg of drugs would have been planted in her bag than a necklace, and in my opinion far more likely that the drugs would have been planted in her bag by this recently exposed drug racket than corby herself take 4kg of drugs on holiday with her
I take your point

One thing though. Suppose she is a drug smuggler and was trying to import drugs into the country, for whatever reason. How are they supposed to prove she had knowledge of the drugs if there is no presumption that whatever was in the bag, she was aware of, or was hers? It would be very hard to show intent or knowledge if you did not make certain (rebuttable) presumptions

The very fact that it was 4kgs of drugs makes it very hard to comprehend how it mysteriously got into her bag.

they would have to find fingerprints on the bag or weigh the bags before and after they reach their destination etc

i don't really know, but i'd rather some marijuana gets into the country than have unknowing drug mules imprisoned. i may want to go overseas myself one day.

and i know you will say, but drugs could potentially cause more harm to more people than just locking up one person, but that is a problem for the international community to face by better prosecuting people high up in these drug rings, not an excuse to have an unjust law

exactly, how would she have gotten this much marijuana and why would she be so stupid as to just leave it lying around in her unlocked bag

it makes far more sense that corrupt baggage handers would've smuggled it into her bag to be unpacked once they reach sydney airport. this probably happens all the time.

i still dont understand why a person would take marijuana over when it's cheaper to get from over there :s why take the risk or death when you could access it over there without it really being tied to you (unless you were caught with it, which wouldnt happen in an airport)

20 years Jesus that is a long time.

I think people should stop with the comparisons between Abu-Bakr Bashir and the Corby case. Bashir was not actually up for the murder of the 102 people he was up for INCITING the murder. Is 2 years enough for that? Well thats up to you to decide. The actually bombers though they got life (Although I'm not sure of this, so if i'm wrong it's totally my fault).

But considering she was facing death or life in prison in prison 20 years isn't that long in comparison. A South-African man who was carrying less marijuana then Corby got life in prison a couple of weeks ago.

The Verdict:

1stly I have to say I couldve told you that weeks ago... predicatble!

2ndly I have to say serves her right for taking up so much bloody news time when there are 100% much more important things happening in the world

3rdly, ok its not her fault that australian TV is shit, and puts hour upon hour of irrelevant news just because the "victim" is remotely attractive and can cry on cue.

4thly No big deal, she'll buy her way out once she seals her book deal.

the end.

GET OVER IT PEOPLE!!!

Im sorry, i dont mean to sound like a real cold hearted bitch but OPEN YOUR EYES TO THE REAL EVENTS TAKING PLACE IN THE WORLD!!!

if she was jailed for 5 years, yeah some people would accept it
but 20 is like whoa
well all that "wanting kids, family, a man, a freedom of life"
went down the drain for her
i feel bad for her,
watchin' her emotionally makes me feel for her in her situation,
well she was davasted and was prayin' for hope to let her free,
really a bali prison is ewww condition, even the women's jail in australia is in better condition 1000x.
to those who think she deserves this can go lick a rat's
nut sack.
