I guess the difference in the public sector is that there is no (or at least much less distinct) "bottom line." In the private sector, the hierarchy system is such that you report to a manager who will report to their manager who will report to the executives. These executives have a key stake in the well-being of the business so they'll ensure that results happen. As a result, everyone works harder.

With the public sector the top "executive" is the government, and so there is less incentive to work hard and make money. Having said that, work/life balance is a lot better from what I hear from my friends in the public sector, so it's all a trade-off between that you want in the end.

Oh and public sector starts paying more but the private sector pay will quickly catch up over the next 3-4 years and shoot higher.

I work in the public sector, and have for over a year.

It just depends on what role the person is in. Big difference from a Director-General of a department to an executive assistant to a politician.

All the public servants I know spend all day on either Facebook, bos or the internet doing nothing

it is quite good but also has some stupid ridiculous rules regulations etc
cant wear anything with a work logo into the pub for example

the guy who supervises me who is like 45
just finished his cert 3 civil design at tafe or whatever lol

anyway he has spent atleast a week almost entirely dedicating his time to getting upper management to supply us with a vehicle to use (between 3 of us) and saying if we dont get a new one we cant do our jobs

instead of doing his job lol

Yeah obv private after I've graduated but I wouldn't mind being paid to do nothing at work whilst studying

I could just take my laptop to work and do uni stuff get paid and be happy
