I agree that asking for the destruction of Israel is very wrong.
But saying that Israel is a democracy is also wrong.
An apartheid state cannot be a democracy.
I believe that the conflict in this area will not end until Israel ends this apartheid policies.
The solution will come when Arabs recognize Israel and Israel recognizes Palestine state.
In my view the ideal solution is a Palestine/Israel state where Jews and Arabs live together.

Is it okay if this "palestine/israel state" bans the practice of Islam? You have no problem with other middle eastern nations banning religions, so why should this be any different?

I am pretty sure a majority of the protests are protesting for our government to actually use their powers within international coalitions to advocate for responses to Israeli actions, not only in Palestine but across the Middle East. And, for what its worth, they succeeded. Australia recognised Palestine as an independent nation at the UN in September. By showing the government a physical representation of how many of its constituents want action, we engage in the democratic process, and I am sure the ten of thousands that marched through Sydney this year were not all "commie morons"
