Does anyone know anything about these? I'm thinking about picking one up tomorrow for $55.

It's a good heatsink, pretty quiet with a low pitch rumble, just make sure that your motherboard/case/psu layout allows it since it does have a 120mm fan.

Well, while pretty and wierd, the Big Typoon has attracted some pretty poor reviews...
Really?

I've looked at about 4, and they were all raving about it.

Can you link me to a poor review?

It's either the Big Typhoon or Sonic Tower for $55, or the Beetle for $50

The Sonic Tower is not recommended in passive operation though, and the Beetle's thermal resistance is quite inferior to the Big Typhoon.

Personally I would have gone with the Zalman 9500, but that's a bit more pricy.

ive got a big typhoon.....it good cos it has a gigantic heatsink with a fan on top (almost 1 kg). its definately worth its price and its ver decent in keeping ur cpu cool. however :

- make sure ur mobo is compatible and that ur case can fit it.

- this def isnt for noobs to put together as u have to take ur mobo out and stick a supporting backplate behind the mobo and then put in a screws through..

but other then that its a mad fan thats keeps it cool, looks nice and is quiet.

also this fan is better then ur other options and 55 bux is a bargain, im thinking bout getting another one for my next comp..whered u find one for 55?

Just another thing about it, reminded by Enoch's post. The recommended max weight for a heatsink is 500g. So be very careful when moving a PC with such a heatsink.

I should be fine with setting it up so that's not an issue.

I assume an a8n-sli premium would be compatible .. I guess I'll look it up before I make the purchase tho

it's $55 at http://fluidtek.com.au

Anything with a name like 'big typhoon' is bound to kick ass. So buy buy buy.

The Asetek VapoChill is actually not as good as you think. Performance vs noise the Big Typhoon is at the top.
